Division of Endocrinology

Faculty:

The Division of Endocrinology provides comprehensive consultative diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with diabetes mellitus, endocrine and metabolic diseases.

Division of Infectious Diseases

Faculty:

The Division of Infectious Diseases provides comprehensive consultative diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with presumptive infectious diseases.

Fellowship:

Long Island College Hospital has a joint fellowship with Maimonides Medical Center and Coney Island Hospital. An infectious diseases fellow rounds monthly on the consultation service.

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:

Division of Gastroenterology

Faculty:

The Division of Gastroenterology has a large full-time and voluntary faculty. The division performs thousands of inpatient and outpatient consultations and over 6,000 endoscopic procedures annually.

Fellowship:

The Division of Gastroenterology has a fully accredited three year program in collaboration with Woodhull Medical Center. Two fellows are accepted into the program annually. The program participates in ERAS and the NRMP for selection of new fellows.

Division of Pulmonary Medicine

Faculty:

The Division of Pulmonary Medicine provides inpatient and outpatient consultation for patients with a variety of respiratory disorders. The full time and voluntary faculty of the division provides critical care attending coverage for medical patients in the intensive care unit and specialty-oriented respiratory care unit.

Fellowship:

Long Island College Hospital participates in a joint pulmonary/critical care fellowship with SUNY/Downstate Medical Center. A pulmonary fellow rotates monthly at Long Island College Hospital.

Division of Rheumatology

Faculty:

The Division of Rheumatology provides inpatient and outpatient consultation for patients with a variety of rheumatologic disorders. Residents interact with the faculty on the inpatient services, in the outpatient clinic and through elective rotations in the private practice office.

Division of Geriatrics

Faculty:

The Division of Geriatrics provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient evaluation and care for frail elderly. Residents receive training through rotation on a dedicated geriatric service.

Division of Hematology-Oncology

Faculty:

The Division of Hematology-Oncology provides inpatient and outpatient consultative evaluation and treatment for a wide variety of hematologic conditions and both solid and hematologic malignancies. Residents receive training through interaction with consulting attendings or fellows from the division or through rotation as consultants on the hematology-oncology elective.

Fellowship:

The Long Island College Hospital participates in a joint fellowship with SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Fellows rotate monthly on the consultation service at Long Island College Hospital.

Division of Nephrology

Faculty:

The Division of Nephrology maintains a very active inpatient and outpatient consultation service evaluating and treating patients with a variety of renal diseases and associated metabolic derangements. The hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis programs are among the oldest and most established in the United States. The division is involved in cutting edge clinical practice with the recent introduction of interventional vascular access maintenance program by nephrologists. All faculty members, fellows and many residents are involved in the ongoing clinical research for which the division is renowned.

Fellowship:

The Division of Nephrology has a fully accredited two year training program with three fellows in each of the two years.

Division of Cardiology

Faculty:

The Division of Cardiology provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and ongoing care for patients with cardiovascular disease. Cardiology evaluations and treatment are provided by full-time and voluntary faculty and specialty fellows in a variety of settings including outpatient specialty clinics, the consultation service, the coronary care and telemetry units. Medical resident training in cardiology occurs in all these venues under the direct supervision of cardiology attendings and fellows. Clinical research is an important aspect of the cardiology specialty training program. Medical residents frequently collaborate in research projects with the cardiology fellows and attendings.

Fellowship:

There is a three year accredited cardiology fellowship at Long Island College Hospital which is affiliated with Beth Israel Medical Center. There are four fellows per year of training.

Division of General Internal Medicine

Faculty:

Outpatient

The general internal medicine faculty is dedicated to the education of medical residents in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient care. An evidence-based approach to diagnosis and treatment of disease is stressed through didactics and supervised patient care. Residents are given increasing responsibility and independence over their three years of training commensurate with their demonstrated knowledge and clinical judgment.
