Our program has long recognized that without time away from patient care activities a resident can easily become burned out and discouraged. We are happy to report that we have achieved an extremely well-balanced resident and family friendly program without compromising education. Some examples of things we have done to achieve this goal are listed below.

  1. Each resident is guaranteed a minimum of four days off per month with at least one full weekend guaranteed in certain rotations.
  2. We have a night float system to minimize in-house call at LICH.
  3. All residents are able to complete their work within an 80 hour maximum time period each week.
  4. Sick leave of up to 3 sick call days in a quarter.
  5. Four weeks of paid vacation per year that can be taken at a time during the academic year.
  6. Excellent medical, dental and vision insurance coverage for the resident and family.
